A responsibility matrix is part of the document review processes employed by owner-operators, to review the documents submitted by engineering partners.

Once the document is submitted to the owner-operator, the responsibility matrix is consumed by the process, to determine the responsibilities for each object. The responsible parties are determined by the properties of the document itself. For example, a group of engineers allocated for mechanical discipline are reviewing mechanical drawings.
